A whole term in one code
Send a shared school calendar code and every term date, half term and INSET day appears at once, updating whenever the school changes something.
iPhone calendar guide
Three ways to get school dates into Apple Calendar on your iPhone: add a single event by hand, subscribe to your school's official iCal feed, or use Toucan to pull in a whole term of shared school dates and every one-off cake sale, trip and dress-up day in between.
THREE WAYS TO GET SCHOOL DATES ONTO YOUR IPHONE
Open the Calendar app, tap +, type the title, set the date and time (or switch on All-day), add an alert so you get a reminder, then tap Add. Fine for one date — painful for a whole term of them.
Look for an 'iCal' or 'Subscribe' link on the school website or parent portal and tap it on your iPhone. No link to tap? Go to Settings > Apps > Calendar > Accounts > Add Account > Other > Add Subscribed Calendar and paste the URL. This only covers official term dates — and only if your school publishes a feed.
Send a shared school-term calendar code to Toucan on WhatsApp to add a whole term at once, or forward any one-off event — a cake sale poster, a trip letter photo, a class chat screenshot. Approve the preview and it lands in your Toucan feed, which you subscribe to in Apple Calendar just once.
Plenty of schools never publish an iCal feed at all, so there is nothing to subscribe to in the first place.
Term dates and INSET days sit inside a PDF on the school website that nobody can find twice.
One-off events arrive as photos of paper flyers, class WhatsApp messages and screenshots that Apple Calendar cannot read.
Typing every dress-up day and cake sale into your iPhone by hand leaves one parent carrying the whole schedule.
Send a shared school calendar code and every term date, half term and INSET day appears at once, updating whenever the school changes something.
Cake sales, non-uniform days, class assemblies and trip departure times — forward the flyer or message instead of retyping it.
Fixtures and club nights that move around stay visible on the family calendar without anyone re-entering them.
One Toucan feed, subscribed once in Apple Calendar, carries shared term dates and your own one-off events together.
Toucan shows you a preview and waits for your approval before anything is added to your calendar.
Your partner and authorised family members can forward events too, so it isn't one person's job.
It works alongside your school's official feed — keep that subscribed and let Toucan cover everything it misses.
If the school publishes an 'iCal' or 'Subscribe' link, tap it on your iPhone and choose Subscribe. Otherwise open Settings > Apps > Calendar > Accounts > Add Account > Other > Add Subscribed Calendar, paste the feed URL and tap Next, then Save.
Most don't. That is what shared family calendars are for: send Toucan the shared code for your school's term dates on WhatsApp and the whole term is added to your feed, and republished automatically when dates change.
Each shared calendar has a short code. Message it to Toucan on WhatsApp, check the preview it sends back, tap Add calendar, and those dates appear in the Toucan feed already subscribed in your Apple Calendar.
No. Apple Calendar can't read photos, screenshots or PDFs. Send the image to Toucan on WhatsApp instead — it pulls out the date, time and location and sends you an event to approve.
Yes. Authorise your partner or another family member and you can both forward messages and photos to Toucan; everything lands in the same shared family calendar feed.
